Shep Rose is taking a hard look at his past in his new memoir, “Nothing in Moderation: A Psychedelic Reckoning With Excess.”
The “Southern Charm” star reflects on his two-year relationship with Taylor Ann Green, admitting he carries “a lot of guilt” over how he treated her and acknowledging that his lifestyle ultimately took a toll on their romance.
“I do have a lot of guilt associated with Taylor and our relationship. I cheated. I was partying a lot, sending her home in Ubers and staying out with fellow nightlife folks,” Shep wrote. “She was right: I thought I was some sort of rock star.”
The Bravo star admitted he regularly engaged in one-night stands and struggled to turn down anything that came his way.
“I didn’t want to, or know how to, say no to anything that was offered, be it girls, drugs, liquor,” he wrote. “I hate admitting it, but I was sort of a bad guy, piss-poor morally.”
Shep said he later traveled to Costa Rica for an ayahuasca retreat, where he spent time reflecting on Taylor and their relationship.
“I could just see it in her eyes every day. And in her arms and kisses,” he wrote. “She lit up a room and made everyone feel happy around her. Kind and always laughing and supporting others.”
He also expressed regret for bringing Taylor into reality television.
“It’s just tough to think that bringing her into the TV world is all on me,” Shep wrote. “My only hope is that Taylor is able to look back at this crazy but exciting time in her life … and have it produce a smile.”
Andy Cohen’s Phone Call Became a Turning Point for Shep Rose
Elsewhere in the memoir, Shep described receiving what he viewed as a wake-up call from Andy Cohen after BravoCon in November 2023.
According to Shep, he had been “hammered the whole time” and admitted he “did cocaine on a couple of nights with strangers” during the event. He also recalled getting into a screaming match with Craig Conover and having an awkward interaction with a Bravo executive.
Afterward, Andy called him with a message that stuck.
“Apparently, there was an internal email from ‘Watch What Happens Live’ staff about my antics,” Shep wrote. “I agreed with them and expressed remorse.”
Looking back, Shep said the network’s reaction wasn’t what affected him most.
“So, I got sent to the principal’s office for a slap on the wrist,” he wrote. “But the network’s reaction wasn’t what worried me. I was concerned about myself.”
He said he realized during the season 9 reunion that he needed to make significant changes.
“The wild ride that had been my life for 20-plus years was finally catching up to me. What was once amusing was now embarrassing, and I didn’t feel like I was in control,” Shep wrote. “Frankly, I was scared, which was a feeling I’d never felt before.”
“Southern Charm” season 12 has wrapped filming and is expected to premiere on Bravo later this year.
