The divorce between former “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member Annemarie Wiley and her estranged husband, Marcellus Wiley, continues to escalate.
According to new court documents obtained by People, the former NFL player is denying allegations of abuse made by Annemarie while describing his July 4 arrest for alleged domestic violence as “one of the most humiliating and heartbreaking experiences” of his life.
Marcellus Wiley Denies Annemarie Wiley’s Abuse Allegations
In a declaration filed as part of his response to Annemarie’s request for a domestic violence restraining order, Marcellus said he was caught completely off guard when law enforcement arrived at the family’s home.
“The day began as an ordinary day,” he wrote, explaining that he had been spending the holiday with his children watching sports before deputies arrived.
“I was arrested in front of my children and others who were present,” Marcellus wrote. “It was one of the most humiliating and heartbreaking experiences of my life, particularly because I knew I had not abused my wife or my children.”
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of battery on July 4.
The Couple Has Filed Competing Court Claims
Days after the arrest, Annemarie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and also requested a domestic violence restraining order.
In her filing, Annemarie alleged Marcellus subjected her to years of physical violence, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, financial control and intimidation, claiming the alleged behavior dated back to 2012.
She also described an alleged incident on July 3 while the family was in Orlando for their son’s basketball tournament, claiming Marcellus yelled at her and forcefully pointed his finger in her face while she was in bed with one of their daughters.
Marcellus strongly denied those allegations in his response.
“I would first like to say, reading Petitioner’s allegations was heartbreaking, embarrassing, and genuinely shocking,” he wrote.
While acknowledging that their marriage experienced “disagreements, frustrations, and periods of marital strain,” Marcellus denied ever physically or sexually abusing his wife.
“However, I have never physically abused, sexually assaulted, or intentionally harmed my wife at any point during our relationship, either before we were married or during the more than twelve years that we have been husband and wife,” he stated.
The former couple shares three children together, and the divorce proceedings remain ongoing.
