Rulla Pontarelli and her husband, Brian Pontarelli, are facing even more legal drama connected to “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.”
According to reporting from The Providence Journal, Brian first sued Cranston resident Beth Walker in Rhode Island Superior Court on April 13, accusing her of violating a confidentiality agreement tied to a previous lawsuit by allegedly making public statements and social media posts about the matter.
But Walker fired back on May 5 with a countersuit of her own, claiming the confidentiality agreement is “illegal and unenforceable” and alleging Brian made “defamatory and disparaging” comments about her on “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island,” a podcast appearance, and an after-show broadcast.
Walker is now seeking unspecified damages.
Beth Walker Calls Out RHORI and ‘Watch What Happens Live’ Comments
The legal battle appears tied directly to one of the biggest storylines currently playing out on “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island” season 1: Brian’s affair and whether the relationship with the unnamed woman — repeatedly referred to on the show as “the mistress” — is still ongoing.
Walker specifically referenced the April 26 episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” where Brian and Rulla discussed the cheating scandal with Andy Cohen.
During the episode, the couple referred to the alleged mistress as “the cockroach,” according to the filing.
Walker’s attorney, Frank L. Orabona Jr., addressed the situation in a statement to The Providence Journal.
“A public narrative has been created around my client, but narrative and facts are not always the same thing,” Orabona said. “As this unfolds, the evidence will tell a very different story.”
Beth Walker Says Rula Pontarelli’s Husband Broke Confidentiality Agreement First
In court filings, Walker argued that Brian violated the confidentiality agreement himself by publicly discussing the affair and related allegations on national television.
The filing stated:
“Walker’s speech relates to topics of public concern being discussed weekly to a nationwide audience of millions of viewers.”
The filing also claimed:
“Any comments made by Walker were truthful, not disparaging, related to matters in the public domain and/or were made in good faith.”
Walker’s legal team further argued that information surrounding Brian’s alleged affair has already become public through the Bravo series and related media appearances.
“As a result of the national publicity of the show, information related to [Pontarelli’s] personal, romantic relationships is public knowledge nationally across the United States and locally in communities throughout Rhode Island,” the filing stated.
The countersuit additionally argued that it would be “inequitable and unfair” to allow Brian to publicly discuss the allegations while allegedly preventing Walker from responding or correcting information.
Rulla Pontarelli & Her Husband’s Affair Drama Continues
The affair storyline has quickly become one of the central topics of “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island” season 1.
Throughout the season, cast members have discussed text messages and social media posts allegedly connected to the unnamed woman involved in Brian’s affair.
The drama intensified after Brian and Rulla addressed the situation publicly on “Watch What Happens Live,” where they discussed how their marriage survived the cheating scandal.
Walker’s filing now claims some of those televised comments crossed the line into defamation.
Neither Brian nor Rulla has publicly commented on the countersuit as of publication. Although Rulla continues to claim it is over on the show, her co-stars keep providing her with evidence.
