George Clooney is sharing new details about the surprise-filled birthday celebration his wife, Amal Clooney, planned for him in St. Tropez.

The actor turned 65 earlier this month, and Amal, 48, marked the occasion with what sounds like a pretty elaborate setup involving disguised friends, beachside lunches, and plenty of surprises along the French Riviera.

The longtime couple opened up about the celebration while attending the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration in London on Monday.

Amal Clooney Had George Clooney’s Friends Pretend to Be Waiters

While speaking with British Vogue, Amal began teasing some of the surprises she planned for George’s milestone birthday.

“I just surprised him on his birthday, actually with a number of things that…” Amal said before George jumped in.

“Yeah, she had friends of mine show up posing,” he explained.

Amal then clarified they were “posing as waiters.”

George joked that the surprise nearly took him out.

“It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65 because you could drop,” he said. “You know, that could be the end of you, so you have to be very careful when you surprise people.”

Despite the shock, George added, “Yeah, well I’m still standing, barely.”

The pair were recently spotted enjoying a lunch outing with friends at the famous Club 55 restaurant in St. Tropez while celebrating the birthday getaway.

The Hollywood A-Listers Share Parenting Advice for Their Twins

George and Amal are parents to fraternal twins Alexander and Ella, who turn 9 next month.

During the same interview, Amal shared the advice she hopes their children carry with them as they grow older.

“I think we want them to stay curious, ask lots of questions and challenge the things that don’t make sense to them, like much of what’s going on in the world,” Amal said.

George, meanwhile, mixed parenting advice with a joke connected to his Casamigos tequila brand.

“Don’t mix grain and grape,” he said. “I think that’s important for the children to know, don’t mix the two.”

George Clooney Says He and Amal Have ‘Never Had a Fight’

The birthday celebration comes shortly after George made headlines for claiming he and Amal have never had an argument during their marriage.

The couple married in September 2014 and recently celebrated more than a decade together.

During a recent appearance on “CBS Mornings,” George explained that he no longer feels the need to argue over small things.

“Well, when you’re younger, you want to be right about everything,” George said.

“And you know, Amal and I — everybody gets ticked off when I say it — but we’ve never had a fight. We never had an argument.”

George said his perspective shifted as he got older.

“If she wants to paint the wall red, I don’t care,” he explained.

“You get to a point in life where you just go: ‘Why would that be a discussion or an argument?’ We have a really amazing relationship because we’re also so supportive of each other.”
