Andy Cohen is opening up about the legal challenges facing Bravo — while also sharing what he sees as the network’s biggest hurdle moving forward.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Cohen addressed the lawsuits filed against Bravo, NBCUniversal, and their production partners, explaining why his name is often included.
“Yeah. Well, also because they wanted to get press,” he said.
Despite the ongoing legal drama and talk of a “reality reckoning,” Cohen made it clear he’s not backing away from his role as the face of the network.
“It’s the greatest brand on television. The fact that I could be Bravo Andy is a gift,” he added.
‘Real Housewives’ Future Hinges on Keeping Shows Fresh
Looking ahead, Cohen said the biggest challenge for Bravo isn’t controversy — it’s keeping its hit shows evolving.
“Keeping the shows fresh,” he explained. “I view producing the Housewives shows as, we have 10 planes in the air and you want to keep the planes in the air flying with no turbulence.”
That balancing act is already playing out on shows like “The Real Housewives of New York City,” which is currently filming season 16 with the return of Carole Radziwill.
Cohen pushed back on the idea that Radziwill’s return is meant to “save” the show.
“I don’t think it’s ungenerous to say that it’s good to bring someone from the past back who’s beloved,” he said. “She actually knows more of the women now than she did when we brought her in season five.”
He also teased what fans can expect from the new season.
“We’re halfway through filming, and it’s everything that we wanted it to be,” Cohen shared. “I think people are going to be really happy. We’re getting great personal story. We’re getting great interpersonal story, we’re getting a ton of humor and a ton of drama.”
Andy Cohen Talks Nene Leakes Return and Bravo Expansion
Cohen also addressed Nene Leakes joining “Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip” for its “Roaring 20th” special, even after her past legal issues with the network.
“We are celebrating 20 years of the Housewives,” he said. “It’s in the past… it felt like doing something with her would be really nice for the fans, and she really wanted to do it. It was very positive.”
However, he suggested a return to “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” may not be in the cards right now.
“We’ve worked so hard to get a cast on Atlanta that is cohesive and makes sense,” he explained. “That’s what I’m focusing on right now.”
Cohen also reflected on the success of “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island,” admitting that launching a new franchise came with some uncertainty.
“There are thousands of shows. No one is watching live television,” he said. “But I knew from the casting that this show was going to be a hit.”
He added that seeing that instinct pay off is what keeps him motivated.
“When it happens as a producer that, in your gut, you know something’s going to be great… that is why we are doing what we’re doing,” Cohen said.
