Captain Jason Chambers may be calm at the helm, but when it comes to dating, even the “Below Deck Down Under” captain admits he’s still figuring things out. The Bravo star recently opened up about being single, raising his daughter, and why romance hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing — giving Bravo gossip lovers plenty to chew on.
Jason, who shares his 11-year-old daughter, Saskia, with his ex, revealed in a February 1 interview with The Daily Dish that dating has taken a back seat as he balances fatherhood and life at sea.
“I have really put it out there,” Jason said. “There hasn’t been a moment, to be quite honest, and I still kind of find it funny and hard when there is a moment.”
According to Jason, yachting doesn’t exactly help the dating odds — especially when the person you’re seeing isn’t part of that world.
“Yachting’s a tough one,” he explained. “If the course certification said, ‘Once you get certified as a captain, you’ll never be home again,’ I don’t think anyone would become a captain. You’re at sea a long time. It’s great when you’re young.”
Still, Jason said “Below Deck Down Under” has given him the opportunity to rethink his career path and create more space for his personal life.
Captain Jason Opens Up About Co-Parenting and Watching His Daughter Grow Up
Jason has consistently been open about co-parenting Saskia, whom he shares with his ex, a former yacht chef he met while working at sea. During a November 2025 appearance on “Habits and Hustle,” he explained how quickly his daughter is growing up — and how that’s changed his perspective.
“I know that my daughter’s at that age where she’s starting to understand,” Jason said. “She doesn’t whine when I’m away. She prefers to go into shops by herself.”
He previously praised Saskia’s mom during “Below Deck Down Under” season 2, episode 1, calling her “fantastic” and explaining that they co-parent and run a business together.
Why Dating Hasn’t Been the Priority for the ‘Below Deck Down Under’ Star
Jason also addressed his love life during BravoCon 2025, admitting that being constantly connected to the boat makes relationships difficult.
“As a captain, you’re never off the boat,” he said. “I gave up yachting for two years to be with my daughter, because otherwise I’d never see her.”
In earlier comments to The Daily Dish, Jason acknowledged that some of his past relationships lasted longer than they should have.
“I probably wasn’t being 100 percent myself,” he said, adding that he paused dating because he didn’t have the time to bring someone new into his daughter’s life.
What Captain Jason Is Looking for Now
So what does Jason want in a future partner? Nothing flashy.
“I love to explore. I love to be adventurous,” he said. “I don’t need much. I’m a minimalist.”
Translation: active, water-loving, curious — and able to laugh along the way.
New episodes of “Below Deck Down Under” air Monday nights on Bravo.
