Before joining the cast of “Ladies of London: A New Reign,” Margo Stilley had already made headlines for a film role that sparked major controversy.
The 42-year-old actress and model built her early career in London after choosing an unconventional path. According to her career bio, Margo declined a full scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design and instead traveled the world before eventually relocating to London as a teenager to pursue modeling.
That decision soon led to her first major acting role — and one that would become widely discussed in the entertainment world.
These days, Margo’s life looks very different. She’s married, raising three children, and spending most of her time focused on family life.
“My career is in acting, but for the last few years, I have been a stay-at-home mom,” Margo told The Daily Dish.
Still, fans of “Ladies of London: A New Reign” may soon hear more from her outside of reality TV. Margo and castmate Martha Sitwell are planning to launch a podcast called “The Good, The Would, and The Should.”
“Martha and I have come up with a podcast where you can write in questions that you might need advice on,” Margo explained. “We give you the good advice, the bad advice, and what you should probably do advice.”
Margo Stilley’s Controversial Film ‘9 Songs’
Long before her reality TV debut, Margo starred in Michael Winterbottom’s 2004 film “9 Songs” alongside actor Kieran O’Brien.
The film follows the relationship between Matt and Lisa, a couple whose love story unfolds through a series of intimate encounters tied to several rock concerts they attend together.
Originally intended as a small indie arthouse project, the film quickly sparked widespread attention because it featured explicit scenes involving real, unsimulated sex. The unexpected reaction turned the film into one of the most controversial British movies of the early 2000s.
Why Margo Stilley’s Name Was Missing From Early Credits
In a recent interview with LADbible, Margo explained that the initial confusion around her identity stemmed from a simple comment she made during early screenings.
“I said, ‘oh just put me on as Lisa’ at the Cannes screenings which were not public,” Margo recalled. “Then the press got it and The News of the World ran a hotline for anyone who had information on who I was.”
At the time, Margo was just 21 years old and unprepared for the intense media attention that followed.
“I then realised I was causing a lot of ruckus,” she said, joking that the decision turned out to be accidental “marketing genius.”
Still, the public reaction proved overwhelming.
“I just didn’t think people would be that interested. I was so wrong,” she said.
The Lasting Impact of the Film’s Controversy
More than two decades later, Margo says the film still follows her online.
Clips and references from the movie continue to circulate on explicit websites, often tied directly to her name.
“It’s not Michael’s name and it’s not Kieran’s name on there. It’s my name,” she explained.
Reflecting on the experience, Margo said the backlash revealed a difficult reality about public reaction to the film.
“I think it’s one of my greatest heartbreaks. To find that out about the world,” she added.
