Subject: He does not get paid that well
Spill It to BravoandCocktails.com:
Hi, please keep me Super anon as I don’t want to lose my job!!!!!! I watched the reunion last night and James mentioned he makes so much money DJing and that might be true, but he just did an event at the place I work, (please bleep my business out) and we only paid him 2k, Not sure if he thinks that’s a lot of money? I didn’t personally meet him but other employees said they thought he was more professional than they were expecting.

2k a night 2-4 times a weeks is a lot of money
Okay but 2,000 a night isn’t bad collectively.
If he does that even 4 nights a week it’s almost half a million dollars a year.
2000 is what a lot of people make in a week.
Comparatively to other djs it’s probably not a lot, But if he’s making that $$ on one gig and doing something like that multiple times a week….he sure is making more than me lmao
Let’s say he’s doing 4 shows per week at 2k each–that’s $8,000/week which works out to $32,000/month and $384,000 per year. Nothing to shake your fist at.
I agree with all these comments, 2K is really not bad! Also, you need to consider how long his sets are, if he’s only performing for about an hour, maybe 2? He’s making 1-2K an hour while most people make 2K a month. Maybe he’s not earning Diplo money but he’s definitely not hurting either. 2K a performance plus VPR money and endorsements…I’d say he’s good
I’m sure for a simple corporate event that’s a standard price. When he does a club I’d bet he’s taking in a percentage of the ticket sales as well which would certainly add up. Having said that for 2k I think I’m going to add DJ JK to my wedding after party bc that’s well within budget!
Plus I’m guessing these places are playing travel/accommodations!
for purposes of bragging rights, i don’t think 2k is a lot. even if it’s 1-2 hours- all that lugging of equipment & setup/takedown? it’s good, but not brag worthy
2k is someone’s paycheck every two weeks. 2k for a a few hours, and you have the option to make that or more every night for a few more hours? Listen, it’s not Beyoncé money, but not having to work an 8-5 and make enough money to fund my life sounds like a good deal to me.
I wonder how privy that person was to the total pay. If it’s a bar type establishment, I imagine he’s taking a cut of the bar sales since his name brings people in the door.
I can say that DJ’s typically get paid depending on the venue and the capacity. It’s not a flat $xyz across the board. But… $2000 for a few hours is really good plus all the other things he’s got going on…
Sandoval is paying to play so $2k to play sounds pretty fucking rich in comparison
Jumping on the bandwagon to agree with everyone, 2k might not sound a lot but as everyone has mentioned £2k four times a week, plus endorsement money, plus VPR money all adds up.
PLUS, I went to la two years ago, James was playing at Sur and then at a club after. I’m guessing like most DJs he often plays more than one gig a night especially when they are only a couple of hours long, so I guess what I am trying to say, it’s quite possible some nights he’s earring 5/6k or in excess of 10k per week.
For a night that can be a lot BUT he A. doesn’t do that every night & B. he doesn’t get paid like that at every venue! ? He makes me tired!
Where do you people live? That’s alot depending on your cost of living. Since James lives in LA, it probably doesn’t seem like a lot but you tend to get paid based on cost of living where you are. He would most likely get paid more in LA vs a gig in say South Carolina. Add in his money from filming VPR and endorsements, if he was able to buy a house in California, he’s doing well.
Im sure some gigs pay him more but 2k is still a lot and his working multiple gigs through the week. James portrays himself as someone with a big ego on the show but I think when it comes to his Dj’ing profession, he takes it very seriously and he’s taking whatever is offered to him. If he was charging 10k a gig then he wouldn’t be working as much. James was absolutely correct when saying Sandovals band isn’t as successful as his Dj’ing business. Sandoval is lucky if the band makes a little money per gig to cover a few of the many costs. Sandoval will never get all the money back that he has put into the band, James is only making profit.
Lol at people in the comments thinking that’s a lot of money for a DJ. Idk if you’re just being willfully blind because everyone’s acting overly favorable of James (following the herd as usual people) or if you’re just unaware what a successful/popular DJ makes.
Agree that 2k per small gig is decent $. But also I don’t think he was saying this to brag and deflect. When I rewatched the reunion, he was saying that his drinking on a dj gig is different than sandy and Schwartz getting paid for a “club appearance” cuz they can drink and get sloppy and everyone laughs it off but James is actually putting on show and technically “performing”. The standard for him on a paid gig is way higher than people have for the disgusting brothers.
