The government is playing a huge role and might be the reason why trailers etc are delayed. They want this to be a huge travel advert for the city and likely was the initiator for it being a franchise.

This is 100% true. The government / Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid will be trying to control the narrative and change public opinion especially after the huge backlash with his kidnapped daughter and also everything that has just come out with his wife divorcing him, Princess Haya.

I was wondering the same thing when Captain Glenn from Below Deck Sailing was in Dubai a month or so ago and was flooding his IG with all these pictures from an event in Dubai. They probably contacted Bravo for any and all or opportunities.

This is interesting to me given UAR strict laws governing drinking, women’s behavior, etc.
Source: dated a US Marshal who spent a good deal of time there.

So torn on this show. Dubai clearly not the most PC place or the most human-rights friendly. Torn about watching it.

Dubai is amazing and there are a lot of untrue assumptions about daily life. there are some guidelines sure, but really if you’re just respectful you’re fine. dubais changed a lot over the years 🙂

I lived there for 5 years. I always said they’d never have a franchise bc of the government. No doubt the only reason they did is because they need tourism badly to support their industries there and I’m sure it’s been rough with Covid. But they would never relinquish control completely as they are still a Muslim country even with all the glitz and glam. I’m sure it took a long time to negotiate how it would work and what will be shown! All other HW trips there have filmed only in a few spots for a reason.
