Whitney Leavitt just made her biggest career update in a very on-brand way. The “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star revealed she’s leaving the show—and she did it live on stage.

During her final performance in Broadway’s “Chicago,” Whitney broke the news while in character as Roxie Hart, reading it straight from a prop newspaper. “What’s that?” she said. “Whitney Leavitt announces she’s leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The crowd immediately reacted with applause.

Whitney Leavitt Announces Exit During ‘Chicago’ Performance

Whitney’s announcement comes after months of speculation about her future on “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” Back in March, she hinted that she was ready for a change.

“I’m figuring it out in real time,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re figuring it out together, but it feels like that’s the trajectory of where it’s going.”

She added, “I wouldn’t be where I am without it, but it feels like it’s time to challenge myself in other ways and fulfill these dreams and passions that I’ve been trying to get even before the show.”

Despite the exit, Whitney had already filmed scenes for the upcoming fifth season. The cast even traveled to New York City earlier this year to support her during her run in “Chicago,” showing that she’s still very much connected to the group.

At this point, it’s unclear whether Whitney will appear in season 5 in a reduced role or pop in for guest appearances.

‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Faces Ongoing Drama

Whitney’s departure comes at a complicated time for “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” Filming for season 5 was paused earlier this year following a major conflict between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen.

The situation escalated during filming, leading production to temporarily shut down cameras.

That wasn’t the only headline tied to the show. Taylor was also set to appear on “The Bachelorette,” but those plans were scrapped after a resurfaced video from 2023 circulated online.

“In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of ‘The Bachelorette’ at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family,” a Disney Entertainment spokesperson said in a statement to TMZ.
