Hello – @theagency is ripping off victims and citizens of a city in a disaster. Which is not only deplorable but illegal. I’m hoping someone with a bigger audience can help gain some attention to this so they stop. I have photo evidence. Almost doubling the rent on some of their Los Angeles rent listings that have been up since December.. I have screenshots

What’s funny is Mauricio reposted a story from Ben Balack (member of the agency and was on Netflix show too) calling out ppl from other brokerages doing the same thing. lol even the tiny Oppenheimer twins on Selling Sunset were calling agents out lol but the thing is agents have the fiduciary responsibility to get their clients the best price for their property but also too it illegal to price gouge during an emergency. Most of the agents doing that are more than likely doing this bc their clients are telling them too. Just all around sad 🙁 for everyone involved
But does this fall on the agents or the people who own the home and are renting them out (the landlords)? I saw Jason call out landlords but I didn’t catch him mentioning agents.
OMG 😱 GROSS 🤮
I don’t think it’s the agency that makes the prices for rentals, I believe it’s the landlord or owners
Disgusting. There is a special place in hell for people who take advantage of those who lost everything
The prices are set by the owner of the property, not the agents.
You can’t blame this on them.
News on East coast picked this up – Can’t remember who – but AM radio NYC (1010 wins?) – has started chatting about realtors upping rents/advising clients to move to second homes for CA folks. We are calling it “despicable!”
If they had any ethics, they’d not list a rental by an owner so greedy in the face of this horrific tragedy. Not like Mauricio needs the money right now.
This person who sent this in is wrong. This is a Rodeo Realty agent in LA. The agency has more ethics than most, and would never.
I don’t think the agency would do this but they are contractually obligated to carry out owners wishes hence Jason O calling out landlords while trying to help people affected. Very sad all round but just highlights the greedy world we live in
I think the “realtors” are like rent broker/hired by home owner to manage it (like property management company – they wealthy don’t want to manage their properties. They hire people
For that)
Sorry but IDGAF if the uber wealthy have to pay exorbitant rent. Welcome to the world the rest of us have been living in for a long time now. I pray that those who truly need shelter are able to connect to the resources available to them. I hope that landlords who are entrusted with housing normal folks are holding tight to their morals.
Can an agent not refuse to work with the owner or refuse to list the property if the owner is insisting on price gouging during an emergency? Genuine question, I’m just not understanding why they don’t both bear responsibility.
