The Upper East Side isn’t exactly known for surprises—but Sonja Morgan’s former townhouse has delivered one. The onetime “Real Housewives of New York City” star’s 63rd Street mansion, which she sold in 2024 after years of price cuts, is no longer hosting caburlesque parties or toaster oven dinners. Instead, it’s now home to Release Recovery, a luxury sober living facility—and some neighbors aren’t thrilled about the new arrangement.

“There are so many different people going in and out, at first we didn’t know what was going on. Several neighbors have been talking about it, even the doormen,” one local griped to Page Six. Another complained that when walking past the foyer window, the sight of “a shoe rack with tons of shoes” was jarring. “Now it all makes sense,” they added, calling it “a disappointment” for locals strolling their dogs.

One homeowner even worried the center could tank property values, saying the place now feels like “Grand Central.” Their solution? “Sonja should move back.”

Sonja Morgan Responds to Rehab Rumors

For her part, Morgan insists she never planned to turn the iconic five-story townhouse into a recovery house. “A rehab had approached me about renting my place and converting it into a treatment center,” she told the outlet. “But I couldn’t do that to my neighbors. The residents’ association wouldn’t have been too happy about it.”

Morgan, who lived in the home with her ex-husband John Adams Morgan before their 2006 split, first listed the property for $11 million back in 2019. After years of remodeling, price reductions, and headline-making open houses, she finally sold it for $4.5 million. According to Sonja, the buyer promised he and his wife would be moving in. Instead, neighbors got a revolving door of new tenants under the banner of Release Recovery.

The rehab’s website highlights its “elegant accommodations”—which may look familiar to RHONY fans who watched countless brunches, blow-ups, and Sonja-isms play out inside its walls. For locals, though, the nostalgia hasn’t softened the adjustment.
