Karen Huger DUI sentencing. Live updates from inside the courthouse

Karen Huger’s DUI Sentencing is today, February 26, 2025 at 9:30 Eastern. She was found guilty of driving under the influence, negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision and failure to notify of an address change in Montgomery County, MD in December 2024. Bodycam footage showing Karen visibly and audibly under the influence after the car accident was released and shown in portions on the reunion episode of Real Housewives of Potomac on Bravo.

Here are some of the updates so far on Karen Huger‘s DUI sentencing. Please refresh this post frequently as we’ll be making updates. Post will read with the most current updates at the top. Karen’s sentencing started at 9:30 eastern today, February 26, 2025.

Update 11:44am: According to @weigopodcast, as Karen was being taken into custody, she yelled, “Love you Ray. God’s got you. You’ll be alright. God bless you.”

Update 11:32am: Karen has 30 days to appeal his decidion and 90 days to ask the judge to reconsider the sentence with hopes of lowering the sentence.

UPDATE 11:29am Karen just got taken away by the sheriff to start her 1 year behind bars! Some friends and family here gathered around her and said we’re praying for you and you’ve got this. And she is gone.

Update: *Unconfirmed* Karen Huger may be going straight to custody.

Update: According to Fox5DC, the judge was visibly angry and told her she was “filled to the gills with alcohol” the night of her arrest. A juror leaving the courthouse after Karen Huger’s sentencing was “surprised by this verdict” and “wasn’t really expecting the judge to come down as hard as he did”

Update: Karen has been sentenced to 2 years of jail, with one year suspended plus 5 years of probation and a $2900 fine. This means she will spend one year in jail. Prosecution sought a two year sentence, recommending that all but six months are served. (aka 18 months in jail).

Update: According to @weigopodcast on Threads, “The judge said that Karen is no stranger to drinking while driving on the roads. When she got a PBJ in 2007 one would think Ms. Huger learned her lesson. In 2008 before the ink was dry, on the other one, she was arrested again. He asys that Karen had the hang of working the system prior to 2011. All warnings went in one ear and out the other but she remained undeterred.”

Update 10:01am Her attorney is saying off the show Karen is a devoted wife and mother. He just said the overuse of prescription medicine caused this accident and this should have not gone to trial. I got lost on this one. Karen is going to make a statement. And according to @weigopodcast on Threads, “her lawyer presented reasons to the judge why she went to the type of recovery center that she went to. He said you have to make it appealing for people to step away from their everyday lives. Sort of like an incentive to get help. She went to a place called Right Turn for 48 hours. It is a place with rooms meant to look like jail cells so she could experience what that’s like. She also has a continuing relationship with her therapist. She has signed up to participate in a program where she has a hand held breath device that will require her to blow four times a day The results go to whomever she chooses.”

Update 9:56am Karen’s attorney speaking about not having cameras during a trial because he doesn’t want people to behave differently. He is talking shit about us being here to watch “the wreck” People are fighting battles we don’t know about it. He mentioned the show and the judge said he’s never watched it. LOL

Update 9:54am Judge read letter from Morningstar Baptist Church, read letter from director of rehab B side recover and a statement from MADD. He is reading to himself not out loud

Update 9:49am Judge seems a little lost. Both sides sent a Sentencing memorandum for the judge to review. Karen’s lawyers state something else was submitted on Feb 24th for him to review. Didn’t say what it was tho….

Update 9:41am Where the hell is the judge? I haven’t seen any other RHOP cast here. I’m looking at Karen who must be nervous because she is playing with her hands in her lap. She is looking straight ahead. Not looking over at us nor at Ray. The waiting is torture!

Update 9:39am I looked over at Ray and he looks distraught. It’s kinda sad… they are bringing in chairs to seat people.

Update 9:36am Standing room only in the court room. Karen just put her glasses on and it looks like she is reading to herself maybe a statement….

Karen is wearing all black pants and a black jacket. She has on her blonde shoulder length wig. Ray is in a black suit.
